Ellen White and Vaccination

Ellen White’s rationale concerning drugs and the blood

“The period in which the infant receives its nourishment from the mother is critical. Many mothers, while nursing their infants, have been permitted to overlabor and to heat their blood in cooking; and the nursling has been seriously affected, not only with fevered nourishment from the mother’s breast, but its blood has been poisoned by the unhealthy diet of the mother, which has fevered her whole system, thereby affecting the food of the infant. The infant is also affected by the condition of the mother’s mind. If she is unhappy, easily agitated, irritable, giving vent to outbursts of passion, the nourishment the infant receives from its mother will be inflamed, often producing colic, spasms, and, in some instances, causing convulsions, or fits. {RH July 25, 1899, Art. B, par. 6}

“The effects of a flesh diet may not be immediately realized, but this is no evidence that it is not harmful. Few can be made to believe that it is the meat they have eaten which has poisoned their blood and caused their suffering. Many die of diseases wholly due to meat eating, while the real cause is not suspected by themselves or by others.” {CG 382.4}

“The light given me was that a sanitarium should be established, and that in it drug medication should be discarded, and simple, rational methods of treatment employed for the healing of disease. In this institution people were to be taught how to dress, breathe, and eat properly—how to prevent sickness by proper habits of living.”—Letter 79, 1905 {CD 303.4}

“In our sanitariums, we advocate the use of simple remedies. We discourage the use of drugs, for they poison the current of the blood. In these institutions sensible instruction should be given how to eat, how to drink, how to dress, and how to live so that the health may be preserved.”—Manuscript 49, 1908 {CD 303.5}

“The question of health reform is not agitated as it must and will be. A simple diet, and the entire absence of drugs, leaving nature free to recuperate the wasted energies of the body, would make our sanitariums far more effectual in restoring the sick to health.”—Letter 73a, 1896 {CD 304.1}

“Under the head of stimulants and narcotics is classed a great variety of articles that, altogether, used as food or drink irritate the stomach, poison the blood, and excite the nerves. Their use is a positive evil. Men seek the excitement of stimulants, because, for the time, the results are agreeable. But there is always a reaction. The use of unnatural stimulants always tends to excess, and it is an active agent in promoting physical degeneration and decay.” {CD 339.2}

Notes: Adjuvants are essentially “unnatural stimulants” added in vaccines, used to help create a stronger immune response. Aluminum salts, such as aluminum hydroxide, aluminum phosphate, and aluminum potassium sulfate, have been used as adjuvants.

“Many die of disease caused wholly by meat eating; yet the world does not seem to be the wiser. Animals are frequently killed that have been driven quite a distance for the slaughter. Their blood has become heated. They are full of flesh, and have been deprived of healthy exercise, and when they have to travel far, they become surfeited and exhausted, and in that condition are killed for market. Their blood is highly inflamed, and those who eat of their meat, eat poison. Some are not immediately affected, while others are attacked with severe pain, and die from fever, cholera, or some unknown disease.” {CD 385.4}

“The impurities of the body, if not allowed to escape, are taken back into the blood and forced upon the internal organs. Nature, to relieve herself of poisonous impurities, makes an effort to free the system. This effort produces fevers and what is termed disease. But even then, if those who are afflicted would assist nature in her efforts by the use of pure, soft water, much suffering would be prevented. But many, instead of doing this, and seeking to remove the poisonous matter from the system, take a more deadly poison into the system, to remove a poison already there.” {CH 61.2}

“Parents sin not only against themselves in swallowing drug poisons, but they sin against their children. The vitiated state of the blood, the poison distributed throughout the system, the broken constitution, and various diseases, as the result of drug poisons, are transmitted to their offspring, and left to them a wretched inheritance, which is another great cause of the degeneracy of the race.—How to Live, 50. {HL 57.4}

“There are but few animals that are free from disease. Many have been made to suffer greatly for the want of light, pure air, and wholesome food. When they are fattened, they are often confined in close stables, and are not permitted to
exercise, and to enjoy free circulation of air. Many poor animals are left to breathe the poison of filth which is left in barns and stables. Their lungs will not long remain healthy while inhaling such impurities. Disease is conveyed to the liver, and the entire system of the animal is diseased. They are killed, and prepared for the market, and people eat freely of this poisonous animal food. Much disease is caused in this manner. But the people cannot be made to believe that it is the meat they have eaten which has poisoned their blood, and caused their sufferings. Many die of disease caused wholly by meat eating, yet the world does not seem to be the wiser…. It may be doing its work surely upon the system, and yet the person for the time being realize nothing of it.”—How to Live, 59. {HL 103.3}

Their blood is highly inflamed, and those who eat of their meat, eat poison. Some animals that are brought to the slaughter seem to realize what is to take place, and they become furious, and literally mad. They are killed while in this state, and their flesh is prepared for market. Their meat is poison, and has produced, in those who have eaten it, cramps, convulsions, apoplexy, and sudden death.”—How to Live, 59, 60. {HL 104.1}

“Many are ignorantly injuring their health and endangering their lives by using cosmetics… When they become heated, … the poison is absorbed by the pores of the skin, and is thrown into the blood. Many lives have been sacrificed by this means alone.”—The Health Reformer, October 1, 1871. {HL 189.2}

“The great heart of the work is at —–; and, as the human heart throws its living current of blood into all parts of the body, so does the management at this place, the headquarters of our church, affect the whole body of believers. If the physical heart is healthy, the blood that is sent from it through the system is also healthy; but if this fountain is impure, the whole organism becomes diseased by the poison of the vital fluid. So it is with us. If the heart of the work becomes corrupt, the whole church, in its various branches and interests, scattered abroad over the face of the earth, suffers in consequence.” {4T 210.4}

Based on her volumes of statements Ellen White describes the profound correlation between the health of the blood and how that effects the health of the body.

“Mercury, calomel, and quinine have brought their amount of wretchedness, which the day of God alone will fully reveal. Preparations of mercury and calomel taken into the system ever retain their poisonous strength as long as there is a particle of it left in the system. These poisonous preparations have destroyed their millions, and left sufferers upon the earth to linger out a miserable existence. All are better off without these dangerous mixtures. Miserable sufferers, with disease in almost every form, mis-shapen by suffering, with dreadful ulcers, and pains in the bones, loss of teeth, loss of memory, and impaired sight, are to be seen almost every where. They are victims of poisonous preparations, which have been, in many cases, administered to cure some slight indisposition, which after a day or two of fasting would have disappeared without medicine. But poisonous mixtures, administered by physicians, have proved their ruin.” {4aSG 139.2}

“For the medical world, and for almost everyone, these were days of great ignorance in health lines. Bacteria and viruses were unknown. When disease struck, the symptoms were treated with poisonous drugs, such as strychnine, mercury, and calomel; also alcohol, blisters, and bleeding.” {WV 104.4}

Note: According to CDC, thimerosal is a mercury-based preservative that has been used for decades in the United States in multi-dose vials (vials containing more than one dose) of medicines and vaccines. CDC and vaccine manufacturers deny any evidence of harm caused by the low doses of thimerosal in vaccines, except for minor reactions like redness and swelling at the injection site, etc. However, please note how Ellen White says that “mercury and calomel taken into the system ever retain their poisonous strength as long as there is a particle of it left in the system.” How much is “as long as there is a particle”? Do not fall for the CDC and the Big Pharma’s claims about the safety or the usage of thimerosal within the vaccine. They are not telling you the truth. Click HERE to learn more about thimerosal.

D.E. Robinson and W.C. White’s Letters

There is no record of Ellen White personally endorsing the use of the vaccine but historically, Adventist have heavily relied on two letters: D. E. Robinson (Ellen White’s secretary) and W. C. White’s (Ellen White’s son) letters as positive evidences in favor of Ellen White’s endorsement. Click to view the original letters.

In his 1915 letter (written just 4 months prior to Ellen White’s death-July 16, 1915), as a response to an enquiry concerning Ellen White’s position on vaccination, Robinson wrote,

“I mentioned the matter to her one day, but was unable to get anything definite. Sister White’s writings contain the broad principles that should guide us in all our work. When it comes to details, however, it is necessary for us to study these and to come to our own conclusion…”

This does not sound like Robinson had any conclusive knowledge as to Ellen White’s position on vaccination. Yet in his 1931 letter (written 16 years after Ellen White’s death), he appears decisively more affirmative. He wrote:

“This question [regarding Ellen White’s position on vaccination] can be answered very briefly for so far as we have any record, she did not refer them in any of her writings.”

However, Robinson also added,

“You will be interested to know however, that at a time when there was an epidemic of smallpox in the vicinity, she herself was vaccinated and urged her helpers, those connected with her, to be vaccinated. In taking this step Sister White recognized the fact that it has been proven that vaccination either renders one immune from smallpox or greatly lightens its effects if one does come down with it.”

Comparing the two letters (1915 and 1931), it appears that Robinson’s response significantly changed from “was unable to get anything definite” in his 1915 letter to “she herself was vaccinated and urged her helpers, those connected with her, to be vaccinated…” and further added “In taking this step Sister White recognized the fact that it has been proven that vaccination either renders one immune from smallpox or greatly lightens its effects if one does come down with it.”

You have to ask yourself, did Ellen White really vaccinate herself and urged her helper to be vaccinated? Where is the proof? And in saying, “In taking this step Sister White recognized the fact that it has been proven that vaccination either renders one immune from smallpox or greatly lightens its effects if one does come down with it.”, is this what Ellen White really believed? And is this consistent with her overall “broad principles” of health? Or is this a case of Robinson taking a bit of an unsolicited overstatement without any substantive proof? This does bring into question whether or not Ellen White’s passing had any influence on Robinson’s latter response, which seem much more deliberate in making her appear as though she positively supported the usage of vaccines.

As for the efficacies of vaccines, would we come to the same conclusion if we were to closely examine Sister White’s “broad principles” of health? Robinson did conclude his thought (in his 1915 letter) by saying, “Sister White’s writings contain the broad principles that should guide us in all our work. When it comes to details, however, it is necessary for us to study these and to come to our own conclusion…” This doesn’t sound like she would have endorsed any compulsory mandates.

In his letter, concerning vaccination, W. C. White (“Willie”) recalls, “She [Ellen White] regarded it as a perplexing question.” He added, “I do not remember of her ever SAYING or WRITING that she had special instruction regarding vaccination.” He goes unto say that “In my earlier days she spoke of it as something dangerous and related my own experience. She said that as a child I was perfectly healthy until I was vaccinated and by that my health was much impaired”

It appears that when Willie was a child, he had an adverse reaction to the vaccine and this caused Ellen White to think of vaccines as dangerous. She further related to her son how she noticed that he was perfectly healthy until he was vaccinated and that his health was much impaired by it.

In the letter, Willie White does mention that he and his associates did receive the vaccination and that Ellen White made no objections to him and others taking it. He does not however offer any evidence as to whether or not Ellen White ever took the vaccine herself. Of all the people Ellen White associated with, Willie, her son, was her most closest confidant. According to Willie, he does not recall his mother “ever SAYING or WRITING that she had special instruction regarding vaccination.” Don’t you think Willie would have known about what Robinson had claimed happened that Ellen White took the vaccine herself and urged others to do the same?

A study published in the Journal of Biomedical Sciences determined that the autoimmunity to the central nervous system may play a causal role in autism. Researchers discovered that because many autistic children harbour elevated levels of measles antibodies, they should conduct a serological study of measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) and myelin basic protein (MBP) autoantibodies. They used serum samples of 125 autistic children and 92 controlled children. Their analysis showed a significant increase in the level of MMR antibodies in autistic children. The study concludes that the autistic children had an inappropriate or abnormal antibody response to MMR. The study determined that autism could be a result from an atypical measles infection that produces neurological symptoms in some children. The source of this virus could be a variant of MV, or it could be the MMR vaccine.
